How Smartphones are changing the Life of Ordinary Nepalese via Mobile Commerce

Almost two decades ago, world got introduced to ecommerce, and today, it is becoming the strongest force in the commerce world. In 2013, according to the survey by eMarketer, the sales in ecommerce reached up to $1.2 trillion. Further getting into the world of ecommerce brings us to the changing trends of this vast cyber world, and Online shopping through mobile apps is expected to be the next big thing. Well, it already kind of is – across the globe, including Nepal. In the last few years, most of the retailers have optimized websites for smartphones.

According to a recent survey, it was observed that online shopping trends have increased 174% due to mobile apps, which is very positive news for all the mobile developers out there. The comfort of sitting at home and ordering your favorite products not by pc, but by your smartphone has made mobile a key driver of ecommerce growth within Nepal and the rest of the world. The combination of mobile apps and affordable mobile Internet packages are further assuring the biggest trend of ecommerce of the near future: shopping through mobile apps. Hence, big retailers out there are already working on their online shopping apps, keeping up with the changing demands of the marketing world.

According to the ecommerce experts, the mobile market is expected to grow up to five million units within the next five years, which ensures further changing commerce trends. This changing trend in Nepal is also because of the falling rates of smartphones, their easy availability as well as the availability of different mobile apps. While iPhone still can be bought of hundreds of dollars, Burmese can get cheaper smartphones by companies such as Samsung Galaxy S8 and Oneplus 3. Other than that, smartphone has over the years, became a sort of a status symbol within Nepal.

In the coming years, the telecommunication services within Nepal are expected to get better and smarter as well. With this, decrease in the rates is expected. With so many facilities and Google Play right there in one’s cellphone, installing an online shopping store’s mobile app will become easier. With the changing ecommerce trends, even the Facebook mobile app has enabled a “buy” button. The online retailers can customize their Facebook pages with the buy button for the mobile-savvy population’s convenience. With this rapid change in trends, mobile ecommerce using startups will find a new and easier way to market their products.

Combination of social media and shopping is perhaps the most fruitful one enabled by the cyber world. At first, products were marketed over the Internet, so that people can know about a certain shop in certain area and shop from there. Now, they don’t need to get out of the house at all, moreover, they don’t even have to turn on their computers – while lying in bed in PJs, they can just open a certain online shopping app and browse through the products they need. Once order is placed online, the customer representative will call them and confirm the purchase – these products are then easily delivered at the person’s doorsteps within a few days – Boom! Welcome to the new era of ecommerce!
